The pedagogy seminar is required for all second-year graduate students, who will be either be grading or TAing (and running discussion/recitation sections) for a CIMS undergrad course . Each grader or TA group will meet with the course's respective faculty member on a weekly basis to discuss assigned readings (usually a few articles on the course readings and/or on some aspect of pedagogy). The seminar will be devoted to discussing course texts and teaching methods, and managing pedagogical issues as they arise during the semester. There will be modules on syllabus development and collaboration with Center for Excellence in Teaching, Learning, and Innovation workshops. The course examines general pedagogy texts such as those by Paulo Freire and bell hooks as well as attends to the specifics of Cinema & Media Studies pedagogy dealing with documentary pedagogy, teaching with social media and cinema archives, and designing innovative student assignments such as the video essay.
This semester, CIMS 8001 is open only for our three CIMS second-year graduate students: Janneane Blevins, Asher Gutheretz, and Cecilia Kryzda.
