The Graduate Group in CIMS administers a Master of Arts degree in Cinema & Media Studies. The degree prepares students to both pursue higher-level graduate study and careers in teaching, administration, and filmmaking in the public and private sectors. After completing the MA, students can go on to apply for a PhD program elsewhere or prepare for careers in the media industry. M.A. students have the freedom to survey a variety of courses and develop their own unique interests. They can take courses in film analysis and media theory or take production courses in scriptwriting, cinematography, and documentary filmmaking. Penn CIMS department is committed to an interdisciplinary, multimodal, and publicly engaged scholarship. The MA and PhD programs are not linked. The MA program is not MFA program.
