Broad Street) for a special screening of Nanny, followed by a conversation with Nikyatu Jusu, Elisabeth Subrin (Professor of Film and Media Arts), and Kartik Nair (Assistant Professor of Film and Media Arts). Nikyatu Jusu is an independent writer, director, and Assistant Professor in Film & Video at George Mason University. Her short films have played at festivals nationally and internationally. With her feature film debut, Jusu is the second black woman director and Nanny [2022] is the first horror film to win the Sundance Grand Jury Prize (US Dramatic). A meteoric year for Jusu’s feature film debut includes wins such as: Sundance Film Festival’s Vanguard Award, the Motion Picture Association's Creator award and a myriad of additional laurels culminating in the 2023 Film Independent Spirit Awards Someone to Watch acknowledgment. Jusu is currently in development on a feature film expansion of her award winning short film Suicide By Sunlight, produced by Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw. Additionally, she’s been tapped to direct a contemporary remake of Romero’s Night of the Living Dead. Monsters are her happy place.
