1992. The official narrative says that this was a triumphal year for Spain, the confirmation of its entry into "modernity", with the Barcelona Olympic Games, the Seville Expo and the celebration of the Fifth Centenary of the so-called "Discovery" of America . Meanwhile in Cartagena, Murcia, the entire city rebelled against multiple factory closures, their rage leading them to even burn down the regional parliament.

Why doesn't anyone remember that?

Building a choral account through more than 40 testimonies, The year of the Discovery manages to open up another version of Spain's recent history.

It also shows the power that words can still have in a world in which language seems increasingly incapable of transforming experience and memory.
