Khoon Diy Baarav | Blood Leaves Its Trail
Iffat Fatima, 2015, 93 min
The film follows the trail of the thousands of young men of Kashmir who “have been disappeared” since 1990, the personal loss and agony their families are going through, and the resistance offered by them to the state. Raising issues that resonate with the movement of the Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo in Argentina, this film offers a compelling, and moving documentation of both state repression and resistance. Made over nine years, the film offers rare footage of Kashmiri women, both outside and inside the home, and bears witness to their understanding of this political moment. Reviews have hailed it as a “nothing-short-of-stupefying video chronicle  …. a compelling narrative in which personal anecdotes and case studies intersect and shuttle back and forth and, like so many coiled springs, hit out at us with their revelatory and emotive force.”
