Beyond the Screen: Initiating Social Change through Film

Through the last century, documentaries have played a pivotal role, informing the public on issues of social and global justice and have served as calls to action, mobilizing citizens and leaders. This panel will feature four alumni documentarians whose work has had an impact felt well beyond the theater. Panelists include Melissa Fitzgerald, C’87, actress and producer of Staging Hope; Jim Goldblum, C’07, producer of Tomorrow We Disappear; David Novack, ENG’86, PennDesign faculty and documentary filmmaker whose work includes Burning the Future: Coal in America and Kimjongilia; and Nancy Novack, C’87, PennDesign faculty and Emmy award-winning film editor whose work includes The Accidental Advocate and When The Levees Broke.
