Animation is often considered to be the younger and perhaps sillier sibling of both cinema "proper" and "high-brow" art. Yet, in recent years, animation exhibitions have proliferated within the contemporary art museum. How do animated realisms and the animated documentary differ from their live action counterparts? How and why does it matter where animation is shown? And how does the changing role of visual technology in war itself impact our understanding of the works we'll consider?
