Friday, October 29, 3:00-4:00pm

Meyerson Conference Room - Van Pelt-Dietrich Library Center, 2nd Floor

The producers of this year's Academy-Award winning films are suing thousands of alleged pirates. Media giant Viacom has sued YouTube for one billion dollars. Is the Internet destroying Hollywood, replacing blockbusters with free content and amateur creations? Or is it—like television and the home video—a technology that will ultimately expand the media empires? Join associate professor and director of Cinema Studies, Peter Decherney, to talk about the Internet's impact on Hollywood, and to think about some of the (radical) proposals that both media companies and legislators have made to ensure a future for Hollywood. Space is limited; advance registration is required.
