Lynette (Qiuyang 秋阳) Shen comes from Shanghai, China. Before beginning her doctoral work at the University of Pennsylvania, Lynette received a BA in Philosophy and Psychology from the College of William & Mary, and an MA in Modern and Contemporary Art History from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her research focuses on time-based media in contemporary East Asian art and pays attention to how images shape and address Sinophone women and queer artists in diaspora. Along with the development of her academic career, she has been working as an independent curator and writer and has maintained an artistic practice in photography and video.
