Penn undergraduate students can apply to a max of 3 internships. Junior Cinema & Media Studies Majors and Minors have priority to be selected for the internships.
Penn Cinema & Media Studies will offer a $5,000 stipend to the recipient of the internship to help with travel and housing. This stipend is not to be considered as wages.
International students applying for the internships might be eligible for CPT in case the are the recipients of the internship.

The BlackStar Summer Fellow will work on the 14th annual BlackStar Film Festival program, providing support in the following areas: the production of the program guide, communication with filmmakers, festival operations, coordination of the filmmaker Q&As, and guest services. In addition to gaining experience analyzing scripts and IP, interns will also learn about the contemporary marketplace, and how the development process works. Our ideal candidate has a passion for storytelling, desires a career in the feature film business, and has a strong interest in and awareness of cultural trends. Interns in Los Angeles are welcome to come work in-person at our offices on the Paramount lot. Interns can also work remotely from anywhere in the world. A commitment of two or three full days per week (9:00 AM – 6:00 PM) is required. MediaTank Productions is a New York and Midwest-based production company that creates documentary films about social issues. MediaTank founder, Michael Kleiman, is an award-winning documentary filmmaker whose films include WEB and The Last Survivor. MediaTank produces independent documentary films and works with advocacy organizations and nonprofits to create short films and animated videos about the issues they are working on. Working mostly remotely with a small team, our summer intern will be asked to wear many hats and will have an opportunity to engage with a wide number of projects, including two feature documentaries in post-production and a number of short films at various stages of the production process. The ideal intern will have a deep love for documentaries, an interest in social issues - with a particular passion for reimagining the justice system - and experience working with Premiere Pro. We are seeking hard-working, dedicated Feature/Television Development Interns for the Summer 2025. Interns will read scripts and write coverage, conduct project research, cover industry happenings while learning the ins and outs of development. Great opportunity to work in a close-knit, friendly environment. Other duties will include other general office assistant work. PBS KIDS | Arlington, VA
The overall goal of the internship is to gain a well-rounded understanding of the development, production, and strategic planning for PBS KIDS’ content pipelines, which include half-hour series, digital games, short-form videos, one-hour specials, interactive experiences, and podcasts. The intern will spend the summer shadowing individual members of the department to gain experience in several areas of the network’s responsibilities. They will also complete a capstone project in an area of their choosing, which will be presented to the PBS KIDS Content Team at the end of the summer.
The position will include the following opportunities:
- Development: Intern will review series pitches, take part in review meetings, draft rejection letters, and help the Content Team track, archive, and respond to content proposals.
- Series production: Intern will read scripts, provide notes, and attend meetings regarding new pilots and series.
- Learning & research: Intern will support the Content Team in tracking research needs and coordinating focus testing with the PBS KIDS Learning & Research team.
- Administrative: Intern will assist department with administrative tasks as needed. Tasks may include meeting planning and scheduling; tracking, logging, and archiving projects; supporting preparation of presentations for internal and external stakeholders; distributing creative materials to internal teams; and managing PBS KIDS’ submission intake system.
- The position will be four days a week, with a strong preference for availability in the Arlington, Virginia office at least two days per week.

Small Motor Skills is the production company of faculty member and filmmaker Scott Burkhardt. Scott is currently working on several television and film projects and looking for someone to work with him over the summer. Intern can work remotely with the possibility of an occasional trip to NYC. Responsibilities would include managing the festival rollout of his latest film and putting together pitch docs for several film and TV projects. Time commitment will vary but would average out to 10-15 hours a week. Should have some experience/skills with Adobe software, Canva, Instagram, graphic design and web development.
