Hendershot, Heather

A double major in French and Film Studies at Yale University, Hendershot earned her Ph.D. at the University of Rochester. She is an Associate Professor in the Media Studies department at Queens, and she is also coordinator of the Film Studies Certificate Program at the CUNY Graduate Center. Hendershot's classes include "Silent Film," "Children's Television," and "The Horror Film." She is the author of Saturday Morning Censors: Television Regulation before the V-Chip (Duke University Press, 1998) and Shaking the World for Jesus: Media and Conservative Evangelical Culture ( University of Chicago Press , 2004); she is editor of Nickelodeon Nation: The History, Politics and Economics of America's Only Channel for Kids (New York University Press, 2004). Prof. Hendershot is currently writing a book on Cold War right-wing broadcasting, and she is the editor of Cinema Journal, the official publication of the Society for Cinema and Media Studies.
