Melancholia: Object of Love, Object of Dread

An attempt to address these questions: How might we understand the affinity between Justine and Melancholia? Can Melancholia be an object of knowledge?

Leo Bersani is an internationally renowned scholar who had worked in variety of fields from gender/sexuality studies, literary studies, psychoanalytical theory, and film and media studies. He has taught at University of California, Berkeley, Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, Paris, Princeton University, the University of Chicago, and the University of Pennsylvania. His most recent books include: The Freudian Body: Psychoanalysis and Art, The Culture of Redemption, Arts of Impoverishment: Beckett, Rothko, Resnais, Derek Jarman’s Caravaggio, and Forms of Being: Cinema, Aesthetics, Subjectivity.
