Jonathan Band

Copyright and Libraries: News from the Front

Jonathan Band is an attorney and adjunct professor at the Georgetown University Law Center who specializes in intellectual property and the Internet. His extensive publications on these issues include Interfaces on Trial: Intellectual Property and Interoperability in the Global Software Industry (Westview Press, 1995), Interfaces on trial 2.0, with Masanobu Katoh (MIT Press, 2011), "A Guide for the Perplexed: Libraries and the Google Library Project Settlement," (click here), and over 100 articles.  He received a B.A. from Harvard College and a J.D. from the Yale Law School.  From 1985 to 2005, when he established his own firm,  Mr. Band worked at the Washington, D.C. office of Morrison & Foerster LLP, including thirteen years as a partner.   Mr. Band serves as a legislative advocate for change in copyright and internet policy and has represented clients with respect to the drafting of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), the PRO-IP Act, and other federal and state statutes relating to intellectual property.  For additional information on Mr. Band, see here.
