Basic introduction to the study of visual media (photography, digital images, movies, Youtube, videogames, etc.), with a focus on the consequences of viewers’ reactions to images. Part I examines the deliberate effects of visual communication. Part II examines the broader consequences of visual culture. Entry-level survey course; no prerequisites.
