At the University of Pennsylvania Jeanne is teaching Critical Methods in Sexuality Studies, Inventing Transgender: Theory, Performance, Politics, and Feminist Aesthetics.
Jeanne is curator of TransOcular: new perspectives in transgender art, media and politics in Philadelphia. She also works on the Movement Building Team of the Sylvia Rivera Law Project, an organizing collective which connects the politics of gender self determination to movements for social justice.
Jeanne Vaccaro received her Ph.D. in Performance Studies at New York University and B.A. in Women's Studies at Smith College. She works at the intersections of transgender politics, new materialisms, studies of affect, and queer theory. Her book project, "Handmade: the Everyday Feelings and Textures of Transgender Embodiment," is an interdisciplinary study of transgender performance art and visual culture. In 2010 she edited "The Transbiological Body," a special issue of Women & Performance: a journal of feminist theory on transgender and queer reproductive ecologies. "Felt Matters," her essay about the handcrafted politics of Emmett Ramdstad's fiber artworks, appears in The Transgender Studies Reader II.
