Location: TBA

Rahul Mukherjee’s Radiant Infrastructures

In Radiant Infrastructures Rahul Mukherjee explores how the media coverage of nuclear power plants and cellular phone antennas in India—what he calls radiant infrastructures—creates environmental publics: groups of activists, scientists, and policy makers who use media to influence public opinion. Mukherjee expands understandings of the relationship between media and infrastructure and how people make sense of their everyday encounters with technology and the environment.”

The book discussion panel will consist of Nikhil Anand (Penn Anthropology), Shannon Mattern (The New School, Anthropology and Media Studies), and Kate Brown (MIT, Program in Science, Technology, and Society).

Rahul Mukherjee will provide a brief presentation and response, and the event will be moderated by Peter Decherney (Penn CIMS and English) and Karen Redrobe (Penn CIMS and Art History).
